Apple Pay Rumored to Launch on Oct. 20

If you've been excited about using Apple Pay, you reportedly won't have to wait much longer. Rumors up until now have claimed that we might have to wait until late November to see the service, but a new report from Bank Innovation claims that we could see it before the end of the month.

The site claims it learned its information from the ever-anonymous "multiple sources," and that the update will be included in Apple's iOS 8.1 patch. The site is careful to note that this is only the "current expected timetable," which means that Apple could still delay it if it believes too many security flaws or bugs remain. (And given the company's track record with bugs recently, that might be a good idea.)

Even if the date turns out to be wrong, the association of the feature with iOS 8.1 seems spot on. Settings for Apple Pay were found in the iOS 8.1 beta (along with proof that the service would also come to the iPad), although they're currently limited to online transactions. It appears we'll have to wait a little longer to use the service at physical stores.

In case you missed it, Apple Pay uses near-field communications technology to allow users to pay for their items with their iPhones and iPads. It securely saves your payment information on your iDevice so you don't have to pull your credit cards out of your wallet every time you wish to make a purchase.
